Oranges are important for those celebrating Chinese New Year, as they symbolize luck, wealth, and prosperity. This CNY-themed cocktail from Camille Tiongco (aka Elli) of No Entry Cocktail Club in Manila uses the fruit to create an easy-drinking highball-style drink.
Ingredients
45ml Whisky
20ml Orange Juice
7.5ml Caramelized syrup*
60ml Soda water
Sesame oil (garnish)
*Make the Caramelized syrup:
Heat the sugar and water until the sugar fully dissolves, then allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it becomes golden amber. Remove from heat once the desired color is achieved, and use right away or thin with warm water if needed.
Method
Build the drink in a highball or tall glass. Add the whisky, orange juice and syrup, stir and add ice. Top up with soda water and gently stir. Garnish with a few drops of sesame oil.
